SHOCK & BEAVERS OPEN AFFL's 30th SEASON WITH BIG WINS

The Alliston Flag Football League opened its 30th season on September 11th, with the four-time defending champion Shock and 2010 finalists Beavers opening the season with big wins - and eyes firmly fixed on a championship rematch in November.

When these two teams met in Flag Bowl 2010 as the two highest scoring teams in the league, defence was the order of the day, with Shock prevailing by a 4-1 score that was the lowest scoring game in AFFL history.   Well,  both offences found their stride to kick off 2011.  The Shock started their quest for a five-peat with a 48-1 win over the Bandits.  Not to be outdone, the Beavers took on a rebuilding Bombers team - now known as the Jager Bombers - and prevailed easily by a 51-6 count.

In other action, the Agents found themselves in a dogfight with the Brusers and were tied 14-14 at half-time, before scoring 24 unanswered points to win 38-14.   The Jokers, who came within 1 point of a semi-final win over the Shock last year, defeated the Big Dogs 20-12 thanks to a solid defensive stand in the last 3 minutes of play.   In the day's final game,  the Eagles scored a late TD, then recovered and onside kick and punched in the go ahead TD with one play remaining to beat the Warriors 26-24.
