AFFL RETURNS AFTER 2020 HIATUS; DEFENDING CHAMPS AGENTS OPEN WITH WIN

The Alliston Flag Football League is back.

After the 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid,  the league Executive and team reps worked diligently through this past August to put protocols in place that meet Ontario government and public health standards.  The result:  The AFFL kicked off it's 39th season on September 12th.

"Our team reps have really stepped up to take responsibility for doing the legwork with their players to ensure we can play,"  said VP-Finance Bill Muir.  "We really wanted to get back on the field, and as long as we stick to our protocols and do our due diligence, the season will be able to proceed."

Eight teams are competing in a 7 game regular season in September and October, with playoffs in November leading to Flag Bowl 2021 on Saturday November 20th.

The quest for a berth in the Flag Bowl final started this past Sunday as the defending champion Agents kicked off their campaign with a solid 22-3 win over the Warriors.  It was the Agents 11th win in a row following on the heels of their perfect 10-0 2019 season.

Not to be outdone, the 2019 finalist Untouchables  got their potent offence rolling with a 31-13 win over the Bandits;  the Jokers outlasted Team Green 20-10;  and, in a match up that always has the flavour of a championship final preview;  the 4x champion Big Dogs edged the 5x champion Beavers 20-13.

Week 2 action will see another marquee match-up as the Untouchables take on the Beavers, with Team Green looking to tame the Big Dogs,  the Jokers trying to have the last laugh against the Warriors and the Bandits wanting to steal one from the Agents.
