BIG DOGS POST BIG WIN TO CLAIM TITLE

The Big Dogs have marked their territory in a big way - and have the 2012 AFFL title to show for it.

The Dawgs posted a convincing 38-9 win over the Jokers to claim the John Boylan Memorial trophy - and in the process lived finally lived up to the potential many in the league knew this squad had when it entered the league four years ago.

After finishing the regular season 5-4, it looked as though the Big Dogs might have to wait another year to reach that potential.  But everything just seemed to click in the playoffs, which included eliminating the five time defending champion Shock and the huge win over the Jokers in the final.

"We had a full team (for the playoffs), including  (QB) Ryan Spataro who missed 4 games this year," says captain Marcello Iafrate when asked what the difference was for the Big Dogs come playoff time. "And I think after 4 years, our defense finally clicked.  We just seemed to really understand how to communicate."

"Our big three are Ryan Spataro, Damon McLachlan, and Adam Spataro," Iafrate continues.  "If we are missing anyone of those guys we have to make some big adjustments.  All three played offense and defense the whole play-offs.

When asked if the Big Dogs could chase the Shock's record 5 consecutive titles, Iafrate admits that is a pretty tall order, but adds, "if our big three stay and are healthy, we are only getting better so I hope so."

Whether or not the Big Dogs repeat remains to be seen, but win or lose, the Big Dogs just love being part of the AFFL.

"I know I can speak for the whole team on this.  We all play lots of different sports in different leagues and the AFFL is by far the best league we are apart of.  Getting together with the other teams and supporting each other is just part of it, but it makes the league so different from the others.

It's well organized and very enjoyable.  The Dogs always look forward to the next year!"
