They have been here before - a top seed come playoff time. Question is, can they find the secret to their first-ever AFFL title?
With the loss, the defending champ Beavers dropped to 3-4 on the year. The squad has certainly missed having perennial all-star Chris Graham in the lineup, but this group knows what it takes to win come playoff time. In the quarterfinals on Nov 3rd, they will face the #4 Warriors in a rematch of last year's semi-final, which the Beavers took 48-17. The Warriors beat the Beavers earlier this year, but come into the playoffs on the heels of a 26-6 loss to Team Green. With rookie QB Bob Troop at the helm, he will face a tough task in unseeding the defending champs.
The Agents open the playoffs on Sunday against the Bandits, who lost to the Jokers 24-10 to finish 8th. The Bandits defence has proved problematic for the Agents in the past, though, so this game will by no means be a cakewalk. The Agents, though, haven't forgotten they fell in the quarters to the Warrior in 2018 and will not want a repeat performance.
The Jokers win moved them to 7th and earned them a rematch of last year's quarter-final with the Big Dogs. The Jokers beat the Big Dogs earlier this year and always play them tough - not the match up the 2017 champs were hoping for when the beat the Untouchables 36-6 to clinch 2nd place last week. The Untouchable loss and Team Green's win set up a quarterfinal match up between those two on Sunday.
The march to Flag Bowl 2019 is set to begin in a season that for the first time in a long time has seen solid defence by all teams, and more upsets than usual. Time to see who the contenders and who the pretenders are.
