WEEK 6: TEAM GREEN BREAKS DROUGHT WITH SHUTOUT; BIG DOGS CLINCH 1ST

In the weekly on-field battles in the AFFL, something has to give in order for one team to emerge victorious.

For Team Green, that something finally did - at the unfortunate expense of the Bruzers.

And for the Big Dogs, that something came at the expense of the suddenly reeling Agents - giving the defending champs their first-ever AFFL regular season title.

First up was a showdown between the last remaining winless teams this season.   The Bruzers had a shot a their first win in the game prior to the tilt against Team Green, but fell to the Redskins 29-6.  Playing back-to-back against a fresh team proved to be a bit much for the veteran Bruzer squad, and it became obvious early on that it was not their day to move into the win column.  Team Green took full advantage and cruised into the win column with a resounding 50-0 win.    However, they in turn faced a fresh Untouchables squad in their second game of day and found out how tough it is to play fresh legs,  losing 49-7.

The Untouchables then solidified their grip on second place by defeating the upstart Bandits 35-22 to move to 6-2, dropping the Bandits to 4-4.

In other action, the Agents sought to get back on track after dropping their first game of the season to the Bandits last week -  but had no such luck in a Doubleheader of Death.  First up were the Beavers, who needed a win to keep their chances at a top two finish alive.   They got just that in a classic defensive struggle, with a field goal proving to be the difference in a 17-14 Beavers win.   The Agents then had to take on the top rated Big Dogs, who were in a position to clinch first place overall with a win.  Once again,  the Agents fell short, dropping a 21-12 decision that saw the Big Dogs move to 8-0 and clinch the regular season title.

In the day's last game, the Jokers needed a win against the Warriors to keep hopes alive of moving into a top 6 position that would see them avoid a wild card game.   True to the trend of the day,  the Jokers got that win by a 34-14 count.

The last week of the regular season next Sunday has some interesting match-ups as the final positions between 2nd and 8th are still up in the air.  Four teams have a shot at moving into 2nd (Untouchables, Beavers, Agents, Redskins) and another four teams are looking to avoid the 7th and 8th spots (Redskins, Bandits, Warriors, Jokers), which means a playoff doubleheader.  Should be an very interesting regular season finale week!
