WEEK 4 RECAP: UNTOUCHABLES TAME BIG DOGS; BEAVERS GNAWING AT HEELS

And then there were two.

After Week 4 of the 2018 AFFL season,  two teams remain undefeated and two teams got their first wins of the season, with the league set to resume play on Sunday after the annual Thanksgiving break.

The Untouchables finally shook the Big Dogs off their legs for their first ever win over the champs in what was easily the game of the day.  But, they have now been joined at the top of the standings but the not to be overlooked Golden Beavers, who won both ends of a double header to move to 5-0 as well.

In the battle for top spot between the Untouchables and Big Dogs, both teams had most of their players active for the game.  The first half was a back and forth between offenses. The Big Dogs managed to anticipate the Untouchables blitz quite well, pitching or direct snapping to Ryan Spataro whom the Untouchables were unable to contain.  However, the Untouchables answered by going deep on a few drives and had a big play at the end of the half,  where they only had two plays  left and got a single point out of it with Jake Molten kicking it through the end zone after a 20 yard reception. Mike Nielyzeruk of the Untouchables chipped in a couple of big field goals to keep the Untouchables close. Still, the Big Dogs carried a 27-17 lead into the second half.

That lead soon shrunk as the Untouchables capitalized on the long ball to open the second half, but the Big Dogs managed to respond with a TD.  Back came the Untouchables managed to score one unanswered as the their defense turned it around and slowed the Big Dogs down, cutting the lead to 2 with just over 3 min remaining. The Big Dogs marched to the 35 yard line and attempted a FG, but the ball sailed wide right for a single point, to give the Dogs a 34-31 lead with 5 plays left.

Taking the ball from their 35, QB Trevor Wood went to work,  shredding the Big Dogs secondary and get to their 15 yard line with 2 plays remaining. The Big Dogs knocked down a fourth down pass attempt, setting up one last play. The Untouchables lined up for a field goal, but then Jake Molten broke free in the back of the end zone and holder Wood spotted him and hit him for the game winning TD.  Final:  Untouchables 37  Big Dogs 34

Joining the Untouchables at 5-0 are the Golden Beavers, who moved into a tie for first with a 56-9 win over the Agents followed by a 43-6 steamrolling of the Warriors.  In the battles of winless teams, Team Green defeated the Bruzers 17-7 and the Jokers beat the Bandits 15-10 in two hardfought defensive struggles.
