BIG DOGS FINISH PERFECT SEASON TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Big Dogs defeated the Untouchables 23-14 to win the 2022 John Boylan Cup, the squad's fifth overall title.

The 2022 AFFL season finished with some fantastic football in all championship games.  In the end,  the Big Dogs barked the loudest,  winning the A championship and finishing a perfect 11-0 season.

The A Championship featured the Big Dogs against the Untouchables.  The Untouchables got to the final by virtue of two big wins - the first a quarter-final win 21-13 over the 2021 champion Beavers;  the second a convincing 27-1 over the expansion Team 9.  The Big Dogs took care of business on route to the final as well, defeating the Bandits 32-3 in the quarters and then vanquishing the upstart Warriors, who had upset the Agents 20-13 in the quarter-finals,  by a score of 23-6 in the semis.

So, the championship game would be a match up of the Untouchables vaunted offence, led by AFFL MVP Trevor Wood,  against the Dawgs defence.  The Big Dogs led at half by a dominant defence 22-3. Untouchables open up the second half with another FG from Dave Presenza to make it 22-6. IT went back and forth for a bit until Trevor hit Mike Campeau with a 30 yard laser that he brought in on the run for a TD. Untouchable went for the 2 and got it- 22-14. Damon kicked for a rouge to go up 23-14. On the final march Trevor was picked of by Wes. Game over!

B Championship won by Warriors 33-32. First half was back and forth with the Warriors leading at the half 17-10. Highlight of the first half was an incredible toe tapping catch in the corner of the end zone by Thomas Troop. In the second half Team 9 fought back to close the gap to 25-23 Warriors.  Warrior QB Marty Patience threw a pick 6 at around midfield to relinquish the lead and Team 9 had their first lead of the game 31-25. Team 9 added a rouge to go up by 7 (32-25). Warriors got the ball back with 5 plays remaining. On third down Marty, from their side of the field, threw a long ball down the sideline that was caught by Thomas Troop and he took it into the end zone. The Warriors were missing their kickers so decided to go for 2. Marty found Mr. Jones to complete the pass and take the lead 33-32 with 2 plays remaining. On the first play, TJ threw long (hoping to get in FG range) but was picked off by Thomas to seal the victory

C championship won by Jokers 25-23. Agents led 22-6 at half but fought back. They tied it up until the Agents regained the lead with a rouge to go up 23-22 with 4 play remaining. On 3rd down Jay Verstraten threw a long pass to Kyle who broke free to set up a 25 yard FG attempt for Jeff Verstraten,  who was playing is final game. Kick was good….Jokers win!!
