The 2012 season started on September 9th with the defending AFFL finalists Shock and Golden Beavers winning their opener.
The five time defending champion Shock kicked off defense of their title with a 36-14 win over the newly formed Redskins. Despite losing some key players in the off-season - including standout Chris Graham who has joined brother Jay on the Beavers - the Shock did not lose a beat and are poised to continue their run of excellence. The win was the Shock's 16th in a row.
The Golden Beavers served notice that they will challenge the Shock this year with a big win over the Bruzers. Off season pick-up Chris Graham bolsters an impressive already line-up on both sides of the ball, but the squad also quietly picked up veteran Larry Cote for some insurance at the quarterback position to back up Tony Smith. Cote's diversity on offence and defence, along with his experience and saavy, should be a great influence on the team.
In other action, the Jokers defeated the new look Agents 28-14 and appear ready to contend as well, looking to avenge narrow one point losses to the Shock in the semi-finals each of the last two years. Finally the Warriors, with four-time AFFL champions Darryl Campbell at QB and brother Dean Campbell bolstering the defence, defeated the Bandits. Warriors rookie Jordan Ross scored two touchdowns and added an interception in the victory.
