The Big Dogs served notice that their bite is much louder than their bark as the AFFL headed into its annual Thanksgiving break, dispatching another potential contender for their crown and stretching their win streak to 21 games.
The Dawgs took on the Untouchables in a battle of undefeated squads. The Untouchables were looking to avenge their 37-17 loss in last year's semi-finals to these same Big Dogs and have the talent to be a tough match up for the champs. But, it didn't happen this game. While both offences put points on the board, it was the Big Dogs who put up more and held on defence when it counted to emerge with a 32-22 win and their perfect record intact to move to 5-0.
Both the Beavers and the Jokers go important wins in their quest for a preferred playoff seed. The Beavers defeated a stingy Warriors squad 22-7. The Warriors have played well defensively this season, but their offence has yet to find its stride, with three different quarterbacks having taken snaps so far. The Jokers got back in the win column with a 14-0 win over an undermanned Bandits squad, who started the game with 6 players and had to forfeit when a player got hurt and could not continue.
In the day's other game, Team Green took a big step towards avoiding a wild-card game with their second win in a row by a 40-6 count over the winless Bruzers.
League play re-commences on Sunday October 15th as the Big Dogs and Team Green try to keep their win streaks alive when they play each other, while the Agents and Beavers play in a game that could have implications for a top playoff seed down the line.
SIDELINE NOTES: Really good to see Dustin Porter of the Jokers back in action after recovering from a serious workplace accident. Nice to see him on the scoresheet too, with a TD against Warriors earlier in season...Speaking of Warriors, also great to see former league "El-Presidente" Joss Ross back in action after being sidelined last season - and taking some reps at QB where he did win co-league MVP as an AFFL rookie a "few" years back ;)...Best wishes to long-time AFFLer Larry Cote of the Beavers who suffered a broken leg just before the season started and turns 60 this year. Oh well - he'll just have to play another season when he is 61!
