Week 5: BEAVERS AND JOKERS HITTING STRIDE

As the AFFL enters the last two week of the regular season, the Big Dogs need a point from their last two games to clinch top spot.   But the #2 playoff seed is still very much up for grabs, and both the Jokers and Beavers had big wins in Week 5 to keep their sights firmly set on a top two finish.
The Jokers found themselves facing off against the Untouchables,  who came in only a point behind them in the standings.  Both teams can explode offensively at any time, and this game did not disappoint.   The two heavyweights pummeled each other for 90 minutes in a see-saw affair, but eventually the Jokers squeaked out a 30-29 victory.

The Beavers, meanwhile, squared off against the Agents in a rematch of last year's semi-final, which was won convincingly by the Agents.  On Sunday, it was the Beavers with a convincing win as they avenged that defeat with a 36-24 victory.   The Beavers also won
21-0 over the Bandits via forfeit.

The wins put the Beavers in second at 4-1-1, one point ahead of the 4-2 Jokers. If each team wins this week, they'll be playing each other with second place on the line in the last game of the regular season.

In other action, the league leading Big Dogs stayed perfect, but it wasn't easy.  A much improved Team Green carried a two game winning streak into the game against the defending champs and proved that they just may be coming into their own.  Some timely flagging and stubborn defense held the Dawgs under 20 points for the first time all season, but the champs defense was equally staunch,  anchoring the Dogs to a 16-0 win.   Both the Untouchables and Agents managed to salvage their Week 5 doubleheaders with victories in their other games.  The Untouchables vanquished the Warriors 36-13 while the Agents unleashed their offensive firepower with a 59-6 win over the Bruzers.

This week,  the battle for automatic playoff spots will heat up as the Warriors, Bandits and Team Green have doubleheaders that will decide who will round out the top 7 and avoid a wild card game in first round of playoffs.
