Week 6: AGENTS SNEAK PAST BIG DOGS TO SNAP 22-GAME WIN STREAK

In Flag Bowl 2016, it was the Big Dogs who thwarted the Agents comeback attempt to squeak out the championship win.  Last week,  the Agents returned the favour,  ending the defending champs 22-game win streak with a tough 33-29 win.

This sets the stage for a big finish to the regular season this weekend where all games could impact the standings top to bottom.

In the marquee game of the day,  the Agents got off to a quick start against the Big Dogs, taking a 13-0 lead after their first two possessions - but the Big Dogs answered back with two scores of their own.   Late in the first half Mike Dvorak of the Agents hit a long field goal to put the Agents up by 4 going into halftime.   The second half was more of the same,  with teams making big plays on both sides of the ball.  With under three minutes to play,  the Big Dogs took a 29-26 lead, but the Agents stormed right back to regain the lead with four plays left in the game.  The Dawgs marched to the Agents 30 and took one last shot at the endzone with a Hail Mary pass that was almost tipped by a defender into a Big Dogs receiver's hands but was swatted away by another defender at the last minute to preserve the 33-29 win - and end the Dogs winning streak.

Damon McLachlan had a monster game for the Big Dogs with two TDs, an interception and two laterals that were then taken into the endzone by teammates.  For the Agents, Mike Dvoraks strong kicks were a difference maker, as was the play of Agents QB Jay Cunningham.

"That was the best I've ever seen him play," says 7-time AFFL champ and Big Dogs QB Greg Moore. "He managed the field so well that there wasn't a whole lot we could do to stop them.  It was a pretty exciting game that they deserved to win."

The Agents completed their doubleheader with a 53-10 win over the Warriors to move to 5-2 and keep their hopes for first place overall alive.

In other action, the Bandits seem to have righted the ship with a 27-8 win over the Warriors; the Jokers stayed in the hunt for top 2 finish with a 37-15 win over the Bruzers; the Beavers kept their hopes for top spot alive with a 39-0 win over Team Green, while the Untouchables stayed in the hunt for 2nd place with a 35-14 win over Team Green.

The 2017 regular season ends on Sunday, with the Big Dogs needing a win or a tie to clinch first place; the Jokers and the Beavers squaring off in a game that could see the winner clinch a top two finish and the loser fall as far as 5th; and the Warriors taking on Team Green with the loser potentially facing a wild card game.
