AFFL KICKS OFF 40TH SEASON

(L to R)  Captains Jake Moulton of the Untouchables and Dan Stanley of the Bandits shake hands prior to the opening game of the 40th AFFL season on Sept 11th

Paul Boulton, owner of Boulton's Replay Sports,  just wanted to have a fun, fall flag football league in Alliston when he put an ad in the Alliston Herald and donated six sets of uniforms for the brand new Alliston Flag Football League in 1982.

Well, that fun, fall league has just turned 40... and is still going strong.

The AFFL kicked off its 40th season on Sept 11th by welcoming a ninth team into the league - appropriately named Team 9 lol - and with the chance to see a 31 year old record possibly fall.

The Golden Beavers tied the fabled Sorcerers record of six Flag Bowl championships in 2021 - and are gunning to set the all-time record this season.  The team started things off on the right foot with a 17-10 win over the Jokers to move to 1-0.

As always, the Beavers will be challenged by the Agents, Big Dogs and Untouchables.  All three squads kicked off 2020 on winning notes.   The Agents, with a new QB at the helm,  prevailed 16-7 over an up and coming Team Green squad.  The Big Dogs took on the expansion Team 9 and squeaked out a 7-6 in a defensive struggle.  The Untouchables, meanwhile, had a tough go against the Bandits, falling behind 11-3 before scoring two late TDs on 5th down in the first half to go up 15-11, then adding two more early in the second to pull away and win 27-11.

Regular season play will run until  November 6th, with games at Banting HS until October 30th and then at Wright Field for November.  The 40th AFFL Flag Bowl Championship will be held November 27th.
