LEAGUE MOURNS TRAGIC LOSS

The AFFL is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Family and friends gathered in Barrie on Saturday September 24th to pay their respects to River Wells, one of the young adults killed in a tragic car crash just over one month ago.

River was among six people in their early 20s who died in a collision at a McKay Road construction zone in Barrie on Aug. 27. It's believed the group was heading to a casino in Innisfil in a single vehicle when it plunged into a concrete pit in the centre of the road between County Road 27 and Veterans Drive.

He was a member of the AFFL's Bandits, joining the club after a stellar high school rugby career in which his coach Steve Porter said he was "tough as nails".  "River was a great kid," said Porter, "genuine and loyal to the end."

He will be sorely missed by his teammates and AFFL brothers, and our sincere condolences go out to both his family and the Bandits.
